Catering to Students' Learning Styles
There are five different learning modalities that come together to create a dynamic portrait of each child. Knowing a student’s learning style is even more important in a distance learning environment. Philmore Academy recognizes that understanding a student’s learning style is a crucial consideration when devising an academic plan. Knowing how a child best learns will allow us to take a holistic approach that takes into account each student’s strengths, weaknesses, and developmental pace. To evaluate a child’s learning style, Philmore Academy will create a profile of his or her disposition, modality, interests, preferred environment, and talents.
Our learning styles model was designed to cater to auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners, while also underscoring how children think, their motivation to learn, and their interests. The learning profile Philmore Academy creates for every student helps parents better understand their child’s blueprint for learning and offers helpful study tips and techniques. By understanding their child’s learning style, parents can help their children excel not only in school, but in life.
Understanding the Foundation of Learning Styles
There are multiple types of learning styles that fit into three broad categories. Each learning style is based on how an individual best consumes and comprehends information. Philmore Academy s recognizes the necessity of appealing to students who comprise each group to enhance our online school curricula. Auditory learners prefer to learn through listening. Also known as verbal learners, those who fall into this category can internalize information after merely hearing it. Another group of learners works best with hands-on activities that involve touching and doing. Known as kinesthetic or tactile learners, these individuals thrive in settings that include physical activities such as building, moving, or drawing. Finally, visual learners excel when they can read information or see pictures to understand the subject matter better. Visualization is a fundamental component of reinforcing course material for this style of learner.
Learning Styles May Dictate a Student’s Success
Our instructors at Philmore Academy understand the effect that catering to a student’s learning style can have on his or her academic success. Many individuals have a dominant learning style, though some incorporate different learning styles in different situations. It is important to note that there is no correct or incorrect way to learn, so our instructors will accommodate the preferred learning style of each Philmore Academy student. However, repetition plays a critical role in learning. Therefore, we expose students to multiple styles of learning a particular topic. While learning styles may guide how one best consumes information, an individual can improve his or her ability to learn using different styles through exposure to each.
Philmore Academy Will Adapt to Each Student’s Learning Style
With a multitude of learning styles and varying degrees of each, every child is sure to learn differently than his or her peers. Philmore Academy is proficient in identifying approaches for the entire spectrum of student learning styles. Application of Learning Styles
