COVID 19 Procedures

The safety and well-being of our scholars, families, and staff is Philmore Academy’s highest priority. We have been and will continue to follow the information and guidance provided by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as the department of public health in each community we serve. We will utilize the following procedures to ensure the health and safety of our staff, scholars and their families.

1. ILLNESS

  • Staff and scholars who are unwell must stay home.

  • If your child develops a fever during the school day, we will contact you immediately to come and pick up your child.

  • We will follow current CDC recommendations for reentry to school for any student that tests positive for COVD-19.

2. DAILY ARRIVAL PROCEDURES

  • Curb Side Drop-off and Pick-up: Curb side drop-off and pick-up will be implemented to minimize the number of individuals entering the school.

  • We will closely monitor the health and attendance of all students.  All individuals will have his/her temperature taken and given a brief health screening prior to entering to the school daily. As a precaution, we ask that grandparents do not drop off or pick up children if possible.

  • No student will be allowed in the building or remain at school with a temperature of 100.4 degrees or higher.

3. MASKS

  • Masks are recommended but not required.

4. HAND HYGIENE

  • Scholars will have additional opportunities to wash and sanitize hands throughout the school day.

  • Scholars are asked to bring personal sanitizer to keep with them.

  • Upon entry into the building and classrooms, scholars will be required to sanitize hands.

5. SOCIAL DISTANCING

We are taking steps to maintain social distancing.

  • Scholars desks will face forward in all classrooms and be spaced apart as much as possible.

  • Scholars will be spaced apart to allow for social distancing in the lunchroom.

  • Secondary student lockers will be spread out in areas of the building to reduce the number of scholars in the halls at one time. The secondary schedule has been adjusted to allow 10 minutes between classes so that teachers can stagger dismissal times, reducing the number of scholars in the halls, and allowing additional sanitizing and hand washing opportunities.

  • During Phase 1 of our Reopening Plan, secondary students will be allowed to carry backpacks to class to reduce the number of times that they go to their lockers.

6. ADDITIONAL SANITATION

Philmore Academy will continue to implement CDC recommendations to prevent infection for students and staff, which include:

  • Washing Hands Often: Students and staff will wash hands using soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds frequently throughout the day.

  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces

  • Additional teacher and staff training: Teachers and staff will continue to be trained on the enhanced precautions and preventative measures for health and safety.

Health & Safety Learning Activities

We are working hard to maintain a safe learning environment for all students and staff by continuously educating students and staff about the importance of frequent hand washing; proper techniques for covering a cough or sneeze; not touching one’s eyes, nose, and mouth; staying home when ill, and other measures to prevent the spread of all communicable diseases.

Communication & Additional Information

We will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as often as necessary. Thanks in advance for working with us to keep all our students and staff healthy and safe.
