Performing Arts Pathways 

Dance

PA scholars interested in dance will have the opportunity to learn the beginning skills of dance while improving their techniques, poise, self-confidence and creative ability. Scholars will choreograph and dance in class presentations. Through their own dance compositions and expressions, students explore the creative process, translating ideas, thoughts, and feelings into original pieces of choreography. They also study dance forms from many cultures and time periods in cultural and historical context. The vocabulary of dance includes the basic elements of time, space, and force or energy. Students grow in understanding dance and its elements through direct experience.

TV/ Media Production *

PA scholars with interests in TV/Movie production will be able to have hands-on experiences from industry leaders. Students will gain knowledge in journalism and mass communications. As well as, learn how to conduct scholarly research in preparation for an academic career. Students can customize the program of studies to fit their area of interest, including print, broadcast, and digital journalism, as well as advertising and public relations.

Theatre*

In this class, students will be introduced to the basic concepts of theatre arts.  Students will use various creative drama techniques to build confidence and trust, stimulate imagination, movement, and role-play.  Through theatre games and activities students will learn to lose inhibitions and will gain trust in themselves as well as others in their groups.  Students will learn and use drama and theatre vocabulary in class discussions and the activities will specifically address the promotion and reinforcement of students' literacy skills.  A history of theatre timeline will be presented to establish historical perspective and relevance.  Students will exhibit and reinforce their skills through individual and group presentations, performances, and script and journal writing.
 

Visual Arts*

The Visual Arts Pathway focuses on visual arts and photography.  Under the instruction of our world renowned  visual arts instructor, will enhance the technique and provide further exploration of drawing and painting media; reinforce basic drawing and painting skills and critical analysis skills for responding to master drawings and paintings of different historical styles and periods. Including, examining solutions to drawing and painting problems through student work and those of other artists; emphasizes problem-solving techniques to improve techniques and mastery of materials.

Band

The PA Band is an ensemble that provides students with learning and performance opportunities on wind and percussion instruments. The primary focus is on the development, continuation, and expansion of basic skills begun the previous year that are necessary for effective instrumental music performance. In addition to large group ensembles, individual growth and achievement are encouraged through participation in adjudicated solo and ensemble contests, honor bands, and private lessons.

Topics/skills covered include:

• Embouchure and Tone Development

• Counting, timing, and rhythmic development

• Reading and notation skills, including sight reading

• Introduction of Scales

• Simple Music Theory

• Development of an extensive vocabulary of musical terms and symbols

• Ear training and listening skills

• Equipment care and maintenance

• Effective practice habits

Fashion Design

Our PA Fashion Design curriculum is grounded in the realities of the creative side of fashion. Our focus in on building the tools for our scholars to compete in an industry that rewards those who help move fashion forward.
