Philmore Academy Clubs
Philmore Academy LEGO Mindstorm Robotics club is a club where 4th and 5th grade students will learn to design, build, and program cool robots using LEGO’s most advanced robotics technology – Mindstorms EV3. Students will work in small groups to complete projects and games created specifically for EV3. Through the design process, students will develop engineering and coding skills in building their robots.
Philmore's LEGO WEDO Robotics Club will provide our Kinder through 3rd grade students the opportunity to learn to design, build, and program cool robots using LEGO WeDo robots. LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 is a hands on STEM solution that combines the LEGO brick, classroom-friendly software, engaging standards-based projects and a discovery based approach. Students will work in small groups to complete projects and games created specifically for LEGO WEDO. Through the design process, students will develop engineering and coding skills while building and programming their robots.
It's not about Kings, Queens, and Rooks, but rather, quadrants and coordinates, thinking strategically and foreseeing consequences. It's about lines and angles, weighing options and making decisions. Chess might just be the perfect teaching and learning tool. The game of chess increases higher level thinking skills, advance math and reading skills, and builds self-confidence.
Research shows, there is a strong correlation between learning to play chess and academic achievement. Students who received chess instruction scored significantly higher on all measures of academic achievement, including math, spatial analysis, and non-verbal reasoning ability.
Debate Team (Atlanta Urban Debate League)
Philmore Academy's commitment to academic excellence and development of 21st century leaders is proud to be a part of the the Atlanta Urban Debate League. The Atlanta Urban Debate League is committed to providing excellent debate education programs, services, and opportunities to diverse students, educators, and members of the community by teaching, empowering, and equipping them with advocacy and life skills necessary to make a profound and positive impact in the world.
Debates happen two times a month in various schools in the metro Atlanta area for students who are selected.
Welcome to the International Club! We are a club, started by students and staff who are interested in learning about the diverse cultures within the school and community. The International Club does cultural and linguistic activities after school. With activities from learning different languages to international travel, our club members and their families learn about the cultures of others in an engaging and exciting way.
The National Beta Club is an organization for 4th through 12th grade students in the United States. Its purpose is "to promote the ideals of academic achievement, character, leadership and service among elementary and secondary school students
The Heat Cheer & Dance
The primary focus of the PA Spirit program is to promote school spirit among the campus and community. This focus is accomplished by being a strong visible presence at events and community functions. Team members also participate in numerous school and community events. Appearances are a large part of our program throughout the year within the community. To be a part of The Heat Cheer and Dance team is a tremendous honor. It is a large commitment, but one that will create experiences, memories and the ability to build lifelong friendships.
What do Girl Scouts do? Anything they set their mind to. They’re discovering who they are and what they love to do. No two Girl Scout stories are the same, but every single one will inspire you. Philmore Academy has our own troop exclusively for our scholars that enhance the bond and sisterhood that our scholars share.
A Step Team is a team that performs a unique dance art form that originated in Africa. Stepping is a form of percussive dance in which the participants' entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoken works and hand claps.
The purpose of the PA Step Team is to create an atmosphere of unity and diversification through stepping and group creativity. The group’s primary responsibility is to entertain, give back through community service projects, develop a sense of pride, gain leadership skills, and develop a camaraderie between their teammates. Our motto is Live, Laugh, Love and Lift.
Our soccer club provides coed age groups of a mix of beginners along with players that have been exposed to soccer through their club, or friends. Players will learn more about the rules of the game, fundamentals, positional play and teamwork. The emphasis of our soccer program at these ages is player development with healthy competition. Competitive soccer begins in 6th grade.
Our martial arts class begins in PreK4 and is designed to build basic sensory, motor, and social skills in an awesome martial arts atmosphere! Our Instructors for these classes are fun, positive people specially trained in teaching this age group. They channel the children’s curiosity, energy and enthusiasm into accomplishment and growth in balance, control, and coordination.
Our Basketball Intramural Club includes competitive and recreational games, where they compete against others with the school or other private schools. Students also may learn the fundamentals of the game if they have never played.
